Everyone has a secret. We all do. And they affect our lives. We stay silent because of shame or fear. But what if we all just spoke our truth?
It’s not wrong for the story to be complex – as long as it ties together.
Twelve people at a bonfire. All of them have a piece. Intentional or not, they all played into what happened later that night. One points a stranger to where the victim is. Another recognizes a voice because of an earlier life trauma. One chooses to act out of protection for another. Someone isn’t supposed to be there and sees a secret they hold onto. One continues to wonder if their words led to an outcome that’s never been discussed. Still, another rewrites history to forget their true reaction.
We make decisions out of our pain. We move through life wounded and hurt, questioning. The Truth Will Set Us Free! And sometimes that means clinging to our truth even when others won’t. We scheme to hide our skeletons, but eventually, it all comes out. One hustled, schemed, intimidated, and yet it’s all laid bare when confronted by a desire for truth. One’s need to deny the truth pushes others into silence and shame. She is not ultimately responsible for what happens, but her own shame/lack of understanding ultimately isolates those she loves the most. It’s why she’s so antagonistic toward the detective. A town built on secrets cannot stand.
Who do I believe God to be?
God = freedom, truth, grace, forgiveness, strength for today. Matthew 5. Exodus 34:5-7.
Let this be your guide! It does not matter if you never say His Name. Infuse your work w/ these truths and God will do what He will.
I am a messenger, a conduit. I write His glory and help people find Him in the hard, difficult, questioning, and misuse of His name.
Selah.
